What are Chiropractors?
As BJ Palmer (One of the most influential chiropractors) puts it, “Medicine is the study of disease and what causes man to die. Chiropractic is the study of health and what causes man to live.”
Chiropractors focus on your body’s innate or inborn intelligence and how this innate intelligence coordinates every function in your body so that your body can ward off illness and pain on its own without the use of unnecessary drugs or surgery.
Tell me more about Innate Intelligence.
Chiropractors have discovered that your innate intelligence is controlled through your nervous system. Your nervous system starts with your brain, travels through your brainstem and spinal cord, then exits your spinal column via peripheral nerves. These peripheral nerves travel to every cell, tissue, and organ in your body to make sure every system in your body functions harmoniously as one unit.
So, what do Chiropractors do?
Chiropractors detect and correct vertebral subluxations. Subluxations are a misalignment in your vertebral column (or spine/backbone) which causes an interference in nervous system. This interference in your nervous system affects your body’s innate ability to heal. Chiropractors find these subluxations, and with gentle adjustments, is able to correct the subluxation, allowing your body to heal.
Can Chiropractors cure my disease or fix my pain?
The simple answer is no. Chiropractors simply correct subluxations so that your body’s innate intelligence can make sure you are functioning at 100%. Once your body is functioning at 100%, you will begin the healing process.
If I’m sick or have pain, does that mean I have a subluxation?
Not necessarily. Chiropractors recognize that high temperature, vomiting, and other “symptoms” are actually you being healthy. If you ate something bad for you, would you want your body to get rid of it? Of course. If you have a virus, wouldn’t you want your body to heat up to get rid of it? Yeah. If you have an injured disc in your low back, wouldn’t you want your body to warn you with pain? Absolutely! Chiropractors know that these “symptoms” are signs of health and you shouldn’t just suppress them. If you do have a symptom it is a good idea to get checked though, to make sure your body is functioning at 100%, allowing your body to recover faster. That being said, there are appropriate times for medicine to intervene.
